Bakersfield, CA – In the early hours of Saturday, September 6, 2026, a police pursuit resulted in the death of Kevin Daniel Stevens, 22, and led to the arrests of Gabriel Lopez, 20, and Isaiah Andrade, 21, according to KGET.
The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the pursuit began around 1:30 AM near Clover Mountain Court and Pine Meadow Drive.
Authorities said officers attempted to arrest Andrade on an outstanding warrant related to gun and gang offenses when he entered a vehicle allegedly driven by Lopez, which then fled at high speeds.
Police deployed spike strips as the vehicle traveled southbound on Airport Drive near Olive Drive in an attempt to stop or slow it. Lopez lost control of the vehicle and struck Stevens, who was sitting on a bus stop bench on the sidewalk. Stevens sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lopez was booked into the Lerdo Justice Facility on charges including second-degree murder, evading officers, and conspiracy, and is being held on $1.3 million bail. Andrade was booked on charges including evading officers, conspiracy, and gang- and firearm-related offenses. The Kern County Coroner’s Office formally identified Stevens following his death.
