Fresno, CA – On the night of Friday, August 28, 2026, a woman sustained grave injuries after being struck by an SUV in northwest Fresno, according to KSEE.
The Fresno Police Department reports that the incident occurred around 9:30 PM near the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Brawley Avenue.
Authorities said a family traveling in an SUV was heading along the roadway at approximately 35 mph when the collision took place. According to witnesses, the woman entered the street outside of a designated crosswalk and was hit by the vehicle. Responders administered life-saving measures at the scene until emergency medical personnel arrived.
EMS crews then rushed the victim to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The driver remained at the scene to cooperate with officers, and law enforcement closed the area for several hours to conduct a crash investigation.
Police have not released the identity of the victim, nor have officers confirmed whether speed, visibility, or impairment were additional factors in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
Fresno Pedestrian Accidents and Personal Injury Claims
When a pedestrian is hit outside a crosswalk, establishing fault under California law involves evaluating the actions of both the driver and the pedestrian. Although pedestrians should yield when crossing outside marked areas, motorists are still legally required to stay vigilant and do everything possible to avoid a collision. Under state comparative negligence laws, any fault is divided proportionally, meaning injured pedestrians may still qualify for financial recovery even if they contributed to the risk.
Early police reports do not always tell the full story, which is why injured victims can still pursue a claim regardless of initial findings. A successful personal injury claim can secure compensation for emergency medical bills, lost wages, future care, and the overall physical and emotional toll of the crash.
