Carmel Valley, CA – On the afternoon of Saturday, August 22, 2026, a Tesla crash resulted in a fire and left the driver with major injuries, according to KSBW.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:00 PM on Carmel Valley Road near Brookdale Drive.
Authorities said the Tesla caught fire following the crash. As a result, the driver was airlifted to a hospital with major injuries. CHP Officer Ryan Moore said the vehicle burned for an extended period, and fumes from the fire posed a potential risk to nearby residents, prompting a shelter-in-place notice. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed the notice had been lifted.
The road was closed during the response. The investigation remains ongoing.
