Oakland, CA – Just after 11:45 PM on Saturday, August 8, 2026, a pedestrian hit-and-run resulted in a woman losing her life near the Eastmont Town Center, according to KRON.
The Oakland Police Department reports that the accident took place in the 2500 block of 73rd Avenue at the intersection of 73rd and Garfield Avenues.
Authorities said a driver traveling northbound on 73rd Avenue struck the woman as she was in the intersection with Garfield Avenue. The driver fled the scene following the collision. Responding officers found the woman on the ground suffering from critical injuries. Despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is currently unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit. The investigation remains ongoing.
