Delano, CA – On the evening of Sunday, June 28, 2026, a collision with a vehicle resulted in the death of Gilbert Pena Galarza Jr., 21, of Earlimart, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 9:12 PM at the intersection of Pond Road and Stradley Avenue.
Authorities said Galarza was riding a 2012 Honda CBR600 motorcycle westbound on Pond Road east of Stradley Avenue when a 2014 Nissan Rogue driven by a 58-year-old Delano woman, traveling eastbound on Pond Road west of Stradley Avenue, made a left turn onto northbound Stradley Avenue directly into the path of the motorcycle. The front of the Honda reportedly struck the right side of the Nissan.
Emergency medical personnel responded and pronounced Galarza dead at the scene. The Kern County Coroner’s Office formally identified him following the crash. The driver of the Nissan and her passenger sustained injuries.
Both vehicles were designated as evidence and towed following the conclusion of on-scene proceedings. The roadway was reopened at approximately 12:16 AM.
Investigators have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the CHP Bakersfield Area office. The investigation remains ongoing.
