San Benito County, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, July 30, 2026, a broadside collision resulted in the death of Florali Idelia Gabriel-Carrillo, 22, of Hollister, and left three others with serious injuries, according to KSBW, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 3:51 PM at Fairview Road and Comstock Road north of Hollister.
Authorities said a white pickup truck towing a trailer crashed broadside into a blue Honda Civic in the intersection, with the truck intruding several inches into the driver’s seat area. Gabriel-Carrillo, who was driving the Honda, was found unresponsive, with two juveniles and another adult also inside the vehicle.
Fire department, emergency medical services, and sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene. Gabriel-Carrillo died at the scene. The San Benito County Coroner’s Office formally identified her following her death. Three others involved in the crash suffered serious injuries.
The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office was notified to respond for a hard closure. All lanes near Fairview Road and Comstock Road were closed in both directions for several hours before reopening at approximately 6:45 PM.
Three tows were requested for the vehicles, including a heavy-duty tow for the pickup truck and trailer, which had a damaged hitch, and a separate tow for the Honda, which sustained left-side damage and a caved-in roof.
CHP Area Commander Captain Noel Coady extended condolences to Gabriel-Carrillo’s family and friends, and urged drivers to remain attentive and limit distractions, particularly at busy intersections. Details about what led to the crash remain under investigation.
