Palo Alto, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, July 14, 2026, a two-vehicle collision left San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan injured, according to KRON.
The Palo Alto Police Department reports that the accident took place just before 6:15 PM near Alma Street and Hamilton Avenue.
Authorities said the collision involved Shanahan’s vehicle and one other driver. Both parties remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol or drug use is not suspected, and no citations were issued. Palo Alto Police and Fire responded to the scene.
Shanahan’s injuries were described by the team as non-life-threatening. ESPN reported that he sustained a broken nose, three broken ribs, a broken hand, more than 40 stitches to his face, and a severe concussion.
Team officials said Shanahan will participate in training camp on a limited basis while he recovers, with his return timeline to be determined by medical evaluation. Assistant Head Coach Chris Foerster and other team coordinators will handle head coaching responsibilities in his absence.
The investigation remains ongoing.
