DUI Suspect Albert Rodriguez, 61, Arrested after Shaw, Locan Ave Crash in Clovis Injures Passenger

Clovis, CA – On the evening of Friday, June 5, 2026, a suspected DUI rollover collision left two people injured and led to the arrest of Albert Rodriguez, 61, according to KSEE/KGPE.

The Clovis Police Department reports that the accident took place around 5:45 PM on Shaw Avenue near Locan Avenue.

Authorities said Rodriguez was driving eastbound on Shaw Avenue when his car departed the roadway, struck a fence, and rolled over multiple times into a field.

Both Rodriguez and a female passenger were rescued from the vehicle by fire department personnel and transported to a local hospital. The female passenger sustained moderate injuries, while Rodriguez sustained minor injuries.

Rodriguez was believed to have been under the influence at the time of the crash and was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence.

The collision also knocked out signal controls at the intersection of Shaw and Locan Avenues, with City of Clovis crews responding to make repairs. Drivers were asked to avoid the area and expect delays while repairs were underway. The investigation remains ongoing.

California DUI Law

Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”

Passenger Liability

A driver’s liability coverage extends to those inside their vehicle as well as outside. In many cases, those passengers are someone who knows the driver personally. So, when a passenger is injured and their driver is found liable, they may feel reluctant to file a claim against the driver’s insurance.

In many cases, however, a personal injury claim may be required for an insurer to offer a fair settlement that covers the injured party’s medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages related to the accident. A personal injury attorney can facilitate this process and, as a neutral third party, help navigate any emotional complexities that may arise.
