Monterey County, CA – On the afternoon of Sunday, May 3, 2026, a suspected DUI collision left two teenagers hospitalized with major injuries and led to the arrest of a 20-year-old Watsonville man, according to KSBW.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 4:07 PM on San Juan Road between Carpenteria and Tarpy Roads.
Authorities said the 20-year-old was driving westbound in an Audi sedan when he crossed into the eastbound lane. A 53-year-old Pasadena woman driving an eastbound Audi attempted to swerve to avoid the collision, but the westbound Audi sideswiped her vehicle before continuing westbound and striking a Toyota SUV head-on.
The SUV was driven by a 17-year-old girl from Freedom, with a 14-year-old from Watsonville in the passenger seat.
The two teenagers in the Toyota sustained major injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The 20-year-old Watsonville man sustained injuries, while the Pasadena woman was not injured. The 20-year-old was subsequently booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.
CHP officers returned to the scene on Monday to take measurements as part of the ongoing investigation. The investigation remains ongoing.
Personal Injury Claims
When the actions of reckless drivers cause others to be injured, the cost of recovery should not fall on their victims. Filing a personal injury claim with the at-fault party’s insurance can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
