Hwy 152 Crash Injures 4 near Romero Visitor Ctr, San Luis Reservoir

Merced County, CA – On the morning of Friday, May 22, 2026, a collision near the San Luis Reservoir left four people hospitalized after three passengers were ejected from a vehicle, according to KSEE/KGPE.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 9:50 AM on westbound Highway 152 near the Romero Visitor Center, west of Los Banos.

Authorities said an 18-year-old driver of a 1999 BMW coupe was traveling westbound in the number one lane of Highway 152 when, for reasons still under investigation, the driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle.

The BMW entered the center median before spinning back into the westbound lanes and colliding with a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 19-year-old traveling in the number two lane. The Tahoe was pushed into the center median guardrail, ejecting three passengers who were not wearing seat belts.

Four of the five occupants in the Tahoe were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from moderate to major.

Investigators determined that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

Ongoing Investigations

Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.

Personal Injury Claims

After a traffic accident, victims and their families often deal with unexpected financial burdens, such as medical bills, lost income, and, in the worst cases, burial costs. A personal injury claim allows accident victims to hold the at-fault party financially responsible for their costs of care.

Passenger Liability

A driver’s liability coverage extends to those inside their vehicle as well as outside. In many cases, those passengers are someone who knows the driver personally. So, when a passenger is injured and their driver is found liable, they may feel reluctant to file a claim against the driver’s insurance.

In many cases, however, a personal injury claim may be required for an insurer to offer a fair settlement that covers the injured party’s medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages related to the accident. A personal injury attorney can facilitate this process and, as a neutral third party, help navigate any emotional complexities that may arise.
