Woodside, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, May 1, 2026, a collision with a vehicle resulted in injuries that proved fatal to a 75-year-old male bicyclist, according to KRON.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office reports that the accident took place around 12:15 PM on Portola Road.
Authorities said deputies responded to a 911 call reporting the collision and arrived to find the bicyclist alive but unconscious. Paramedics transported him to a local hospital for treatment.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been contributing factors in the collision.
Ten days after the crash, on Monday, May 11, the Sheriff’s Office was notified that the bicyclist had died from his injuries.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office extended its condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the cyclist. The investigation remains ongoing.
Bicycle Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a duty of care towards bicyclists, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by bicycle and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a bicycle accident, filing a wrongful death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
