Diana Cruz Tellez, 58, Killed in Pedestrian Crash on North Chester Ave in Oildale

Oildale, CA – On the evening of Thursday, April 23, 2026, a pedestrian collision resulted in Diana Cruz Tellez, 58, losing her life, according to KBAK.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 9:59 PM in the 1200 block of North Chester Avenue.

Authorities said a 22-year-old woman was driving a 2008 Infiniti G35 northbound on North Chester Avenue when, for reasons still under investigation, a Tellez entered the roadway outside of a crosswalk.

The Infiniti struck the Tellez, causing severe injuries. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced Tellez dead. The Kern County Coroner’s Office formally identified her following the crash.

The driver of the Infiniti remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. It had not been determined whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the collision at the time of reporting.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the CHP Bakersfield office. The investigation remains ongoing.

Ongoing Investigations

Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.

Partial Liability in Pedestrian Accidents

California Law does not consider pedestrians to have the right-of-way under all circumstances, such as when they attempt to cross outside of a crosswalk. However, motorists are never relieved of the expectation to provide pedestrians with a duty of care toward their safety.

It may therefore be determined that a motorist is subject to partial liability in a pedestrian accident. Should that be the case, they would be financially responsible for the victim’s recovery costs in proportion to their degree of liability.
