Tulare County, CA – On the evening of Sunday, April 5, 2026, a vehicle-versus-bicyclist collision resulted in the death of a rider in the community of Ivanhoe, according to KSEE/KGPE.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 6:45 PM on Avenue 328 east of Manzanitas Road.
Authorities said the bicyclist was riding westbound along the right road edge of Avenue 328 when, for reasons still under investigation, the rider allegedly veered left directly into the path of a Nissan SUV traveling in the same direction from behind.
The bicyclist was ejected from the bike upon impact and sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the Nissan was not injured and was not believed to be under the influence at the time of the crash.
The identity of the bicyclist had not been officially released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Ongoing Investigations
Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
Partial Liability in Bicycle Accidents
California law does not consider bicyclists to have the right-of-way under all circumstances. However, motorists are never relieved of the expectation to provide bicyclists with a Duty of Care toward their safety.
If evidence indicates that a motorist shares some responsibility in their own fatal accident, the motorist can still be financially responsible for the victim’s recovery costs in proportion to their degree of liability.
