Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run on SR-51 near Marconi Ave in Sacramento

Sacramento, CA – In the early hours of Thursday, March 20, 2026, a pedestrian fatality was reported on northbound State Route 51 near the Marconi Avenue junction, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 1:54 AM.

Authorities said an unknown individual was found lying in the number three and four lanes of the freeway, with multiple vehicles stopping and occupants exiting their cars at the scene.

All lanes were blocked while emergency personnel and fire department units responded. Officers were dispatched to check the off-ramps at Marconi Avenue, Fulton Avenue, and Watt Avenue for a vehicle with front-end collision damage, consistent with a hit-and-run.

A vehicle connected to the incident was later confirmed and an evidence tow was requested, with the vehicle subsequently transported to a tow yard on Clay Street.

The identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the collision had not been confirmed at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a duty of care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a wrongful death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
