Sacramento County, CA – In the early hours of Saturday, March 14, 2026, a suspected DUI collision resulted in the death of a passenger and major injuries to the driver, according to the Sacramento Bee, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:40 AM on Highway 99 southbound south of Pringle Avenue near Galt.
Authorities said a male driver was operating a black Honda Civic southbound on Highway 99 when the vehicle departed the roadway and traveled onto the shoulder before striking a guardrail and overturning into an embankment. Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in the collision.
The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Dispatch logs indicate that the driver was identified as Lane Guerra-Segura, who was subsequently transported to Kaiser South for treatment. The number two lane was blocked during the investigation while the coroner was notified and responded to the scene. An evidence tow was requested for the vehicle, which required crews to cut through a Caltrans gate to access the overturned Honda. The vehicle was later transported to the tow yard following the conclusion of on-scene proceedings.
The identity of the deceased passenger had not been released at the time of reporting, pending notification of next of kin. The investigation remains ongoing.
