Hwy 99, Mingo Rd Off-Ramp Crash Kills Passenger in Sacramento County

Sacramento County, CA – In the early hours of Monday, March 2, 2026, a single-vehicle collision along Highway 99 resulted in the death of a passenger and major injuries to the driver, according to the Sacramento Bee, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 4:00 AM at Highway 99 northbound at the Mingo Road off-ramp.

Authorities said a red Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling northbound on Highway 99 at an unknown speed when it departed the roadway. The vehicle crossed over the dirt and grass median, traversed the Mingo Road on-ramp, and collided with a tree, sustaining major damage.

Officers arrived to find both occupants injured inside the vehicle. Firefighters and medics provided medical aid to the passenger and extracted the driver from the driver’s seat. Both individuals were transported by ambulance to Kaiser Medical Center in south Sacramento.

Approximately 20 minutes after the crash was reported, the passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver sustained major injuries and remained under medical care at the time of reporting. The California Highway Patrol indicated that alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the collision.

An evidence tow was requested for the vehicle, which was later transported to Central Valley Tow Yard. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office was notified, and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office was contacted to assist with identification proceedings. The coroner’s office indicated it would release the passenger’s name and age following notification of next of kin. No further information about either occupant had been released at the time of reporting.

Ongoing Investigations

Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.

Passenger Liability

Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Wrongful Death Claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming. As a neutral third party, an experienced personal injury attorney can help navigate these emotional complexities.
