Tulare County Sheriff’s Volunteer, Jack Terrel, 90, Killed in Hwy 190, Success Valley Dr Crash

Bakersfield, CA – On the morning of Sunday, February 9, 2026, a two-vehicle collision resulted in fatal injuries to 90-year-old Jack Terrell and serious injuries to his wife, Lucinda Terrell, according to KBAK.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 7:32 AM near Highway 190 east of Success Valley Drive.

Authorities stated that Jack Terrell, a Springville resident and long-time Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer in Patrol, was driving a 2020 Honda Pilot westbound on Highway 190 with his 79-year-old wife as a passenger. At the same time, a 2019 GMC 2500 driven by 20-year-old Carter Lee of Tehachapi was traveling eastbound while towing a flatbed trailer.

Investigators said that for reasons still under investigation, Lee crossed over the painted solid double yellow lines and collided head-on with the Honda Pilot. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where Jack Terrell was pronounced dead. Lucinda Terrell sustained critical injuries and was transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for treatment.

CHP reported that Lee suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. No additional vehicles were involved. The collision caused significant roadway disruption as authorities conducted emergency response operations and a preliminary investigation.

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Jack Terrell’s identity and noted his long-standing service to the community, along with his wife, as volunteers since 2005. The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing, and CHP is asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant information to contact the CHP Porterville Area.
