Pedestrian Crash on Broadway, near the Plaza Kills Elderly Woman, Injures Another in Sonoma

Sonoma, CA – A 73-year-old woman was killed, and a 74-year-old woman was critically injured after they were struck by a vehicle on Tuesday evening, February 18, 2026, according to KRON.

The two out-of-state visitors were walking across Broadway one block south of the Plaza when the collision occurred.

Emergency personnel from the Sonoma Police Department, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sonoma Valley Fire Department responded at 6:56 p.m. to the 600 block of Broadway following reports of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash.

Responders located a 73-year-old woman suffering from life-threatening injuries and a 74-year-old woman with serious injuries. EMS personnel performed life-saving measures on the 73-year-old before she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released.

The 74-year-old woman was transported to a local trauma hospital, where she remains in critical but stable condition.

A preliminary investigation determined the driver was traveling northbound on Broadway at the time of the crash. Authorities said alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to have been contributing factors. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has video footage is asked to contact the Sonoma Police Department.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
