Elk Grove, CA – On the evening of Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Elk Grove police arrested 31-year-old Kushmit Singh of Elk Grove in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 61-year-old man earlier this week, according to FOX40.
The Elk Grove Police Department reports the fatal collision occurred around 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 3, on Bruceville Road between Bilby Road and Boa Nova Drive. Investigators say the victim was parked on the west shoulder of the roadway, fixing a flat tire, when he was struck by a southbound pickup truck.
Police identified a silver Dodge Ram as the suspect vehicle. After identifying Singh as the truck’s owner, investigators executed a search warrant at his Elk Grove residence, where they located the vehicle with damage to the front passenger side consistent with the collision.
Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Singh was booked into custody on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death. The victim’s name has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Elk Grove Police Department.
Hit-and-Runs and Wrongful Death Claims
The compensation provided by a Wrongful Death claim can financially support families grieving the loss of a loved one due to another person’s negligence. These funds can go toward hospital bills, burial expenses, and help support any dependents of the deceased.
In cases where the at-fault party escapes justice, families may still be able to pursue compensation through their own uninsured driver coverage. A personal injury attorney can offer guidance on what options they may have available and negotiate with insurance companies to ensure that victims receive the best settlement possible.
