Elk Grove, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a 61-year-old man was fatally injured in a hit-and-run collision while fixing a flat tire along a roadway, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The Elk Grove Police Department reports that the incident occurred around 8:00 PM on Bruceville Road near Bilby Road and Boa Nova Drive, in the southern portion of the city. The man was stopped on the roadside changing a flat tire when he was struck by a passing vehicle.
Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he later died from his injuries, police said.
Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a Dodge pickup truck that likely sustained damage to the front passenger-side area. Officers conducted a traffic collision investigation at the scene, which required the temporary closure of Bruceville Road between Bilby Road and Boa Nova Drive for approximately one hour.
Sacramento County Coroner’s Office officials will release the man’s identity after next of kin are notified. The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information related to the collision is urged to contact the Elk Grove Police Department.
Hit-and-Runs and Wrongful Death Claims
The compensation provided by a Wrongful Death claim can financially support families grieving the loss of a loved one due to another person’s negligence. These funds can go toward hospital bills, burial expenses, and help support any dependents of the deceased.
In cases where the at-fault party escapes justice, families may still be able to pursue compensation through their own uninsured driver coverage. A personal injury attorney can offer guidance on what options they may have available and negotiate with insurance companies to ensure that victims receive the best settlement possible.
