Vacaville, CA – On the morning of Wednesday, January 14, 2026, a two-vehicle traffic collision on eastbound Interstate 80 near the Leisure Town Road on-ramp resulted in a fatality, according to KCRA, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports the accident took place at approximately 7:01 AM. The collision occurred east of Vacaville and involved at least two vehicles, including a small sedan and a sport utility vehicle.
Investigators said an adult male from Sacramento was ejected from one of the vehicles during the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Emergency personnel from the California Highway Patrol and Vacaville Fire Department responded to the scene. As part of standard emergency response and scene safety procedures, all eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 were temporarily blocked while first responders rendered aid and secured the roadway.
CHP initiated a traffic break and later issued a SigAlert due to the full freeway closure. Caltrans and Freeway Service Patrol assisted with traffic control and congestion management as vehicles backed up near the off-ramps.
Authorities stated that alcohol and driver fatigue appear to be possible contributing factors in the crash. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision remains ongoing.
All lanes of eastbound Interstate 80 were reopened shortly before 10:00 AM. No additional information regarding the identity of the deceased or further contributing factors was immediately available.
