UPDATE: DUI Suspect Kanwal Sahil, 28, of Sacramento, Arrested after Fatal West Capitol Ave, Enterprise Crash

West Sacramento, CA – A 28-year-old West Sacramento man has been charged in connection with a fatal two-vehicle crash on Sunday evening, January 25, 2026, which resulted in the death of a woman from Davis, according to FOX40.

The West Sacramento Police Department reported that the collision took place at approximately 6:53 PM on West Capitol Avenue near the Enterprise exit. Officers responded to the scene and located two damaged vehicles, along with both drivers suffering from injuries related to the crash.

A 32-year-old woman from Davis was transported by emergency medical personnel to a local hospital for treatment of severe injuries. Despite medical intervention, she later died as a result of those injuries.

The second driver, identified as 28-year-old West Sacramento resident Kanwal Sahil, was also transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision. Police reported that his injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigators secured the crash scene and closed both eastbound and westbound lanes of West Capitol Avenue while the department’s Traffic Unit conducted a formal investigation. As part of standard procedure, officers documented the scene, reviewed vehicle positions, assessed roadway conditions, and collected witness statements.

The Yolo County District Attorney filed charges against Sahil on Wednesday, including one count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs causing injury. Prosecutors also alleged enhancements related to a high blood alcohol level, the infliction of great bodily injury, and conduct indicating a danger to public safety.

Sahil is scheduled to be arraigned in Yolo County Superior Court at 1:30 PM on Wednesday. The investigation into the crash remains part of the official case record as proceedings move forward.

Wrongful Death Claims

Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income.
