Folsom, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, January 22, 2026, a pedestrian was killed, and another person was injured in a crash near the Iron Point light rail station that disrupted Sacramento Regional Transit service, according to KCRA.
The Folsom Police Department and SacRT stated that the collision occurred just before 3:00 PM in the area of the Iron Point Station. Police confirmed that a pedestrian died as a result of the crash, while one additional individual was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The extent of the hospitalized person’s injuries was not immediately released.
SacRT officials reported that a vehicle struck a station ramp and overturned onto the light rail tracks. The transit agency emphasized that no SacRT train or vehicle was involved in the collision itself.
As a result of the overturned vehicle, light rail service was blocked between the Sunrise and Historic Folsom stations. SacRT implemented a bus bridge along the affected portion of the route to maintain passenger transportation during the disruption.
Emergency responders secured the scene, provided medical assistance, and coordinated traffic and pedestrian safety in the area. Once the vehicle was removed, SacRT crews conducted inspections of the tracks and surrounding infrastructure to ensure safe operating conditions.
SacRT reported that regular light rail service resumed at approximately 8:00 PM after inspections were completed. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Folsom Police Department.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
