UPDATE: Alfredo Oronia, 29, Named in Fatal Oil Rig Accident at Mt. Whitney, Polk Ave in Fresno County

Riverdale, CA – The man who lost his life after being crushed in a fatal workplace injury involving an oil rig on the morning of Monday, December 1, 2025, has been identified as  Alfredo Oronia, 29, according to ABC30.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office reports that the accident took place around 10:45 AM near Mt. Whitney and Polk avenues.

Deputies said they arrived to find Oronia in a field with severe crushing injuries caused by a large piece of steel that had swung down from the rig. Emergency personnel determined that the trauma was unsurvivable and confirmed he had died at the scene.

Authorities explained that Oronia had been working with a company responsible for dismantling the oil rig when the steel component suddenly shifted. The force of the impact left him critically injured before responders could intervene.

Investigators noted that the removal operation was underway at the time of the incident, and Cal/OSHA has begun a full review to understand how the equipment moved and whether any safety measures may have been compromised.

The investigation is ongoing as officials work to determine the factors that contributed to the deadly workplace injury.
