Seth Pollack, 66, of Monterey Killed in Bicycle Crash near 17 Mile Dr, Crespi Ln

Monterey, CA – On the morning of Friday, December 5, 2025, a head-on collision involving a Toyota SUV and a bicyclist left 66-year-old Seth Pollack of Monterey dead at the scene, according to KSBW.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 9:17 AM near 17 Mile Drive and Crespi Lane.

Authorities said a 62-year-old Pebble Beach woman driving a black Toyota SUV was heading south on 17 Mile Drive and attempting a left turn onto Crespi Lane when the collision occurred. Pollack had been riding his bicycle west in the eastbound lane, and the vehicles struck head-on. CHP noted that the cause of the crash remains under investigation and that impairment is not suspected at this time.

Emergency crews responded quickly and performed life-saving measures, but Pollack’s injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation after reporting possible injuries, and authorities did not release additional details regarding her condition.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Pollack’s identity. California State University, Monterey Bay informed staff that Pollack had spent 25 years leading the school’s Service Learning Institute, shaping programs that connected students with community organizations. The university said his contributions reached far beyond campus, influencing service learning efforts throughout the region and across the country.

Bicycle Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards bicyclists, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by bicycle and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a bicycle accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
