Cable Car Accident on California St in San Francisco Injures 15

San Francisco, CA – On the afternoon of Monday, December 15, 2025, a San Francisco cable car incident resulted in injuries to 15 passengers after the vehicle abruptly stopped, causing riders to be thrown inside the car and sustain minor to moderate injuries, according to KRON.

The San Francisco Fire Department reports that the incident took place around 3:00 PM on California Street, roughly one mile from Lombard Street.

Authorities said the sudden stop caused passengers to lose their footing inside the cable car, leading to broken glass and multiple injury complaints. Fire officials stated that emergency crews and ambulances responded promptly to the scene to evaluate all occupants involved in the incident.

According to the San Francisco Fire Department, a total of 15 patients were medically assessed as part of standard emergency response procedures. Two individuals were transported immediately to a hospital after reporting minor visual trauma, while 10 others were treated at the scene for bumps and bruises consistent with being thrown during the abrupt stop.

Fire officials said three additional passengers declined hospital transport after being evaluated by medical personnel. No life-threatening injuries were reported, and authorities did not announce any fatalities in connection with the incident.

Officials stated that the cause of the abrupt stop has not yet been determined. An investigation remains ongoing as authorities review mechanical and operational factors related to the cable car’s sudden halt.

Personal Injury Claims

After a traffic accident, victims and their families often deal with unexpected financial burdens, such as medical bills, lost income, and, in the worst cases, burial costs. A Personal Injury Claim allows accident victims to hold the at-fault party financially responsible for their costs of care.
