Suspect Alexis Rios, 22, Arrested after Hutchinson Dr Hit-and-Run Injures Child in Greenfield

Greenfield, CA – On the afternoon of Monday, December 9, 2025, a hit-and-run incident involving two children resulted in injuries to one child, according to KSBW.

The Greenfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around the 400 block of Hutchinson Drive near the students’ school.

Authorities said Alexis Rios, 22, allegedly struck two elementary-aged children who were walking to school. One child sustained visible injuries, while the other was struck but did not report any injuries at the time.

Police reported that Rios and his passengers briefly stopped and spoke with the children, but did not call 911 or notify a parent or guardian. They then left the scene, leaving the students to walk to school before staff contacted law enforcement and medical personnel.

Both children were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment, and their parents were notified of the incident.

Rios was later identified as the driver and was arrested on Monday afternoon. He was booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing injury and other related charges.

California Hit-and-Run Laws

California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.

Pedestrian Accidents Involving Children

California Law requires drivers to exercise increased caution whenever they are near places that children are known to gather, like school zones and parks. Children are not expected to make rational, informed decisions about their own safety, and under the age of five, they cannot share any liability in an accident. Both negligent drivers and distracted caretakers could be found liable in accidents involving children.
