Fremont, CA. – On the afternoon of Saturday, December 13, 2025, a vehicle versus pedestrian collision claimed the life of 39-year-old Abraham Fadel EL-Zein, who was struck while walking on a sidewalk and later lost his life from his injuries, according to KRON.
The Fremont Police Department reports that the accident took place around 4:00 PM near Osgood Road and South Grimmer Boulevard.
Authorities said the incident began earlier when patrol officers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and driving recklessly on Osgood Road south of Auto Mall Parkway. Police initiated a traffic stop, but the driver fled, prompting officers to discontinue the pursuit in the interest of public safety.
Investigators said that shortly after officers lost sight of the vehicle, it ran a red light at the intersection of Osgood Road and South Grimmer Boulevard, collided with another vehicle, and continued out of control. The vehicle then swerved onto a sidewalk, where it struck EL-Zein, who was walking in the area at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders transported EL-Zein to a local hospital for treatment. Despite medical intervention, he was pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries, according to police and the Alameda County Coroner.
The driver, identified by police as 28-year-old Antwone Spruill of Fremont, was taken into custody following the collision. Investigators said toxicology results are pending to determine whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors, and the Fremont Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
