Bicyclist Ruben Diza Agbayani, 81, Struck, Killed near Belle Terrace, Butler Road in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA – On the morning of Monday, November 17, 2025, a bicycle-versus-vehicle collision caused 81-year-old Ruben Diza Agbayani to suffer injuries from which he later lost his life, according to KGET.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place near Belle Terrace and Butler Road.

Authorities said Agbayani had been riding a three-wheel bicycle in south Bakersfield when a white Mercedes-Benz collided with him. The impact left him with major injuries to his leg, and he was transported to Kern Medical for emergency treatment.

Medical staff worked to stabilize his condition. However, Agbayani died at the hospital on November 22 as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, who continued to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Bicycle Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards bicyclists, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by bicycle and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a bicycle accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
