Yolo County, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, October 21, 2025, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a big rig along Interstate 5, according to KCRA, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the collision occurred around 8:05 PM near County Road 8, just north of Interstate 505.
Authorities said a 37-year-old man from Seattle, Washington, was reportedly running in the southbound lanes of I-5 when he was hit by a passing big rig. Before officers arrived at the scene, the truck fled the area.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after and found the pedestrian unresponsive. Despite CPR and medical aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries.
Investigators said the truck was traveling south from Dunnigan and may have sustained damage to its left front headlight assembly. The big rig was described as having a cattle guard attached to the front.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal crash and asks anyone with information or who may have witnessed the collision to contact the CHP Woodland Area Office.
