October 3, 2025, Chowchilla, CA: An on-duty police officer lost their life in a Chowchilla big rig accident on Friday night.
Your Central Valley reported that the collision took place at 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 152 and Road 13. Police confirmed that an officer was traveling in the area in their patrol vehicle and a Freightliner truck hauling tomatoes was also near the intersection. The truck driver attempted to cross into the intersection when the officer approached the intersection at the same time in a marked Ford Explorer. The patrol vehicle was unable to stop in time, slamming into the right side of the big rig’s trailer. This caused the Explorer to become lodged under the truck.
The Chowchilla police officer was tragically pronounced dead on scene as a result of their injuries. The 36-year-old male driver of the truck was not injured and remained on scene.
Due to the severity of the accident, the road was blocked for some time. Spilled tomatoes and damaged vehicles were cleared from the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the collision continues.
