Mettler, CA – A 27-year-old woman from Covina died early Wednesday morning, September 17, 2025, after a big rig rear-ended her SUV, according to KBAK, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The crash happened at about 3:10 AM on southbound Interstate 5 north of Valpredo Avenue.
Investigators said the woman had been stopped in the number one lane while driving a black 2023 Kia Sorento. At the same time, a 49-year-old man from White Water approached in a yellow 2025 International tractor hauling double trailers. He failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the Kia.
The impact pushed both vehicles south, where they came to rest in the dirt center divider. CHP logs indicated that the Kia driver was found pinned inside the vehicle and unresponsive when first responders arrived. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The big rig sustained major front-end damage but did not leak its load, which officials noted included hazardous materials. The driver of the truck was not injured.
Emergency crews closed the lanes while tow trucks and cleanup units worked to clear the scene. A full closure was requested to allow investigators to document evidence.
CHP reported that alcohol and drugs did not appear to play a role in the collision. The investigation into the cause of the fatal crash remains ongoing.
Wrongful Death Claims
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling. Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses.
