Crash on I-80 Riverside Blvd Ramp Kills Roseville Pedestrian, 60

Roseville, CA – On the morning of Tuesday, September 16, 2025, a 60-year-old Roseville man died after a vehicle struck him while he was crossing a crosswalk on his bicycle, according to FOX40, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

CHP reported that the crash occurred at about 10:44 AM on the westbound Interstate 80 ramp from southbound Riverside Boulevard. Emergency crews from the Roseville Police and Roseville Fire Department responded immediately, but the man could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the bicyclist was riding through the marked crosswalk when a silver 2021 Toyota Camry driven by a 55-year-old man from Citrus Heights struck him. Early reports from the CHP incident feed indicated confusion over the vehicle type, with callers describing it as a gray Toyota sedan and, in another entry, a white Lexus or silver Toyota four-door car.

Witnesses told CHP that the bicyclist lay unresponsive after the collision, and traffic quickly backed up on the off-ramp. Roseville Fire Department and police requested additional closures to manage congestion, and by 10:58 AM, officers had implemented a hard closure of the ramp. City crews were later contacted to extend the closure to keep the scene secure.

At 11:15 AM, the Placer County Coroner was notified and later arrived to take custody of the victim. CHP logs show that fire units remained on site to provide assistance and cleanup until nearly noon. By 12:40 PM, CHP reopened the ramp after investigators completed their work.

Authorities have not determined whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. CHP continues to investigate the cause of the collision.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, in the event of a fatal collision, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Partial Liability in Pedestrian Accidents

California Law does not consider pedestrians to have the right-of-way under all circumstances, such as when they attempt to cross outside of a crosswalk. However, motorists are never relieved of the expectation to provide pedestrians with a Duty of Care toward their safety.

It may therefore be determined that a motorist is subject to only partial liability in a pedestrian accident. Should that be the case, they would be financially responsible for the victim’s recovery costs in proportion to their degree of liability.
