Novato, CA – On the early morning of Wednesday, August 13, 2025, a single-vehicle collision critically injured Cristofer Larreinaga Corea, 18, of San Rafael, and his two passengers, a 14-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy, according to KRON.
The Novato Police Department reports that the accident took place around 3:00 AM on Ignacio Boulevard.
Investigators stated that Corea had been driving a Ford Edge westbound on Ignacio Boulevard when he lost control of the vehicle. The Ford struck a tree located in the center median of the roadway. The collision caused significant damage to the vehicle and left all three occupants injured.
The 14-year-old girl suffered critical injuries as a result of the crash, and the 15-year-old boy sustained moderate injuries. Emergency responders transported both to a hospital for treatment, but she later died from the injuries she sustained. While the boy reportedly stabilized, the female passenger lost her life.
Corea sustained injuries during the crash as well. He allegedly fled the scene when first responders arrived. Authorities later found Corea, transported him for medical treatment, and subsequently booked him into jail after his release from the hospital.
Novato Police arrested Corea and charged him with child endangerment resulting in serious injury or death, felony reckless driving, and hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death.
Prosecutors presented the charges in Marin County Superior Court on Friday. Corea appeared for arraignment, and the court set his bail at $500,000 following a bail enhancement request. Officials confirmed that Corea remains in custody as the case proceeds.
Wrongful Death Claims
Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and other damages.
Passenger Liability
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury or Wrongful Death claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming. As a neutral third party, an experienced personal injury attorney can help to navigate these emotional complexities.
