Warrant Issued for Suspect Alejandro Padilla after Fatal Hit-and-Run on Kern St in Taft

Taft, CA – On the morning of Sunday, July 27, 2025, a hit-and-run collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle resulted in fatal injuries to the motorcyclist, according to KBAK.

The Taft Police Department reports that the accident took place around 10:43 AM near the 1000 block of Kern Street.

When first responders arrived at the crash site, they located a severely injured motorcyclist who had sustained trauma from the impact. Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures but determined that the individual had died as a result of the injuries. The motorcyclist had been riding alone at the time of the crash.

Investigators determined that the pickup truck, which had been traveling west on Kern Street, made a turn toward the south in an attempt to enter a parking lot. During the turn, the truck crossed into the path of an oncoming eastbound motorcycle, resulting in a violent collision. After the crash, the driver of the pickup truck left the scene before officers arrived.

Taft police identified the driver of the involved pickup truck as Alejandro Padilla, a local resident. Padilla is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing around 185 pounds.

Law enforcement officials have issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with the fatal crash.

California Hit-and-Run Laws

California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.

Hit-and-Runs and Wrongful Death Claims

The compensation provided by a Wrongful Death claim can financially support families grieving the loss of a loved one due to another person’s negligence. These funds can go toward hospital bills, burial expenses, and help support any dependents of the deceased.

In cases where the at-fault party escapes justice, families may still be able to pursue compensation through their own uninsured driver coverage. A personal injury attorney can offer guidance on what options they may have available and negotiate with insurance companies to ensure that victims receive the best settlement possible.
