July 27, 2025, Bakersfield, CA: One person lost their life in a suspected drunk driving accident in Bakersfield on Sunday.
According to information provided by KGET, the collision happened around 12:30 a.m. at 7900 Fairfax Road. Police confirmed that 40-year-old Juan Rangel was driving a pickup truck headed south when their vehicle suddenly drifted into the northbound lane, where it collided with a silver sedan.
The driver of the sedan was tragically pronounced dead on scene as a result of their injuries. Rangel sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized.
Police said that Rangel was booked in jail on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident continues.
