Exeter, CA – On the afternoon of Sunday, July 13, 2025, a head-on collision between two minivans resulted in the death of a passenger and left another person with moderate injuries, according to KSEE, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place just before 3:00 PM near the intersection of Spruce Road and Penlan Avenue, outside the city of Exeter.
According to investigators, a silver Honda Odyssey was traveling north on Spruce Road when it drifted into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a gold Chrysler Pacifica. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles. The Honda remained on the roadway, while the Chrysler came to rest in a nearby orange orchard.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and extricated the driver of the Honda, who had been pinned inside the vehicle. That driver sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The right-front passenger of the Chrysler Pacifica was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities stated that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash. However, investigators are reviewing whether the driver of the Honda may have been distracted by a mobile device at the time of the collision.
Tow services were called to remove both vehicles, and the roadway was cleared after an extended on-scene investigation. The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash to determine the full sequence of events leading to the fatal impact.
