July 15, 2025, Merced, CA: On Tuesday, a big rig accident that led to a fatality took place on a highway in Merced.

The accident, according to Your Central Valley, occurred at 12:30 p.m. on Highway 140 just east of Arboleda Avenue. Police confirmed that a 31-year-old woman was traveling east on the highway in her 2010 Honda sedan while a big rig was traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the Honda started to pass slower vehicles in front of her and the driver of the big rig began slowing down because they saw her.

For reasons that are not yet known, the driver of the Honda lost control and both the Honda and big rig collided. The big rig struck the Honda on the driver’s side and the car became engulfed in flames.

Witnesses pulled over and attempted to get the driver of the Honda out of her vehicle and to safety. However, she tragically passed away on scene as a result of her injuries. The driver of the big rig sustained moderate injuries and was hospitalized.

No further details have been released but police continue their investigation into the crash at this time.
