Bakersfield, CA – Authorities continue to investigate a hit-and-run on the morning of Sunday, May 11, 2025, which caused fatal injuries to bicyclist John Edward Loveall IV, according to KGET.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 12:18 AM near North Chester Avenue and Circle Drive.
According to investigators, Loveall had been traveling in the number two lane of northbound North Chester Avenue when he was struck by a 2006 white Acura TL that was also moving northbound. The driver did not stop after the collision and continued north, leaving the scene without providing aid or contacting emergency services.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after the incident and transported Loveall to a nearby hospital with major injuries. Despite medical intervention, he was later pronounced dead.
During the course of the investigation, CHP located the suspected vehicle abandoned and “completely burnt” in the area of Petrol Road and North Chester Avenue Extension. The vehicle’s condition prevented immediate identification of its occupants or confirmation of the driver’s identity.
Authorities stated that it is still unknown whether the driver was a man or a woman. Investigators continue to seek leads and have asked for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the person responsible for the hit-and-run.
Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the California Highway Patrol Bakersfield Area office. The investigation is ongoing.
Hit-and-Runs and Wrongful Death Claims
The compensation provided by a Wrongful Death claim can financially support families grieving the loss of a loved one due to another person’s negligence. These funds can go toward hospital bills, burial expenses, and help support any dependents of the deceased.
In cases where the at-fault party escapes justice, families may still be able to pursue compensation through their own uninsured driver coverage. A personal injury attorney can offer guidance on what options they may have available and negotiate with insurance companies to ensure that victims receive the best settlement possible.
