UPDATE: Kenneth Eugene Middleton Jr, 49, ID’ed as Pedestrian Killed in while Walking Dog at Home Depot on Antelope Rd

Antelope, CA – The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified Kenneth Eugene Middleton Jr., 49, as the pedestrian who was fatally struck in a hit-and-run collision while walking his dog near a Home Depot on the morning of Wednesday, June 18, 2025, according to ABC10.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 4:30 AM near the 5800 block of Antelope Road in the parking lot of the Home Depot, near Roseville Road.

Middleton and his dog were walking near the store entrance when a vehicle struck them. Both the man and the dog were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. Authorities say the vehicle continued for a short distance after the collision before the driver abandoned it near the intersection and fled on foot.

Investigators have not yet identified the suspect or confirmed whether nearby surveillance footage recorded the crash. The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation and is asking anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Hit-and-Runs and Wrongful Death Claims

The compensation provided by a Wrongful Death claim can financially support families grieving the loss of a loved one due to another person’s negligence. These funds can go toward hospital bills, burial expenses, and help support any dependents of the deceased.

In cases where the at-fault party escapes justice, families may still be able to pursue compensation through their own uninsured driver coverage. A personal injury attorney can offer guidance on what options they may have available and negotiate with insurance companies to ensure that victims receive the best settlement possible.
