Sacramento, CA – The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified 30-year-old Huynh Huu Duc Nguyen of Elk Grove as the driver killed in a multi-vehicle collision caused by a fleeing suspect on the afternoon of Saturday, June 7, 2025, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The Sacramento Police Department reports that the accident took place around 12:30 PM at the intersection of Florin Road and Greenhaven Drive.
Authorities stated that officers were attempting to apprehend 34-year-old Daniel Cunningham of Sacramento, a parolee wanted in connection with a domestic violence case reported on June 1. Officers spotted Cunningham near Florin Road and Greenhaven Drive shortly after receiving information that he was at a nearby residence. When they attempted a traffic stop, Cunningham fled westbound on Greenhaven Drive at high speed.
Cunningham’s vehicle collided with at least six other vehicles at the busy intersection, including the car driven by Nguyen. Emergency personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced Nguyen deceased. No other fatalities were reported, but the extent of additional injuries has not been disclosed.
Nguyen, an immigrant from Vietnam, had moved to the United States four years earlier. A roadside memorial was later placed at the crash site, featuring offerings of food, candles, and incense in remembrance of his life.
Cunningham fled the scene on foot following the crash but was apprehended nearby with assistance from a police K-9 unit. He was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail and faces multiple charges, including hit and run causing death, vehicular manslaughter, evading a peace officer causing serious bodily injury or death, resisting arrest, corporal injury on a cohabitant, and parole violation.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
Wrongful Death Claims
Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income.
