South Lake Tahoe, CA – On the morning of Saturday, June 7, 2025, a collision involving an electric bicycle and an SUV resulted in fatal injuries to a 13-year-old girl, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred shortly before 12:00 PM near the intersection of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Sawmill Road.
Authorities say the teenager, a resident of South Lake Tahoe, was riding an e-bike across the intersection when she was struck by a 56-year-old woman driving a black Acura MDX. The impact of the collision reportedly threw the girl into the air and caused her to collide with a roadside snow-paddle marker.
Emergency personnel transported her to Barton Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She was later transferred to Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada, where she died from her injuries at approximately 2:55 PM on Sunday, according to a notification from the Washoe County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the Acura remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. As of Monday, no arrests or citations had been announced by law enforcement. The girl’s name has not been released, pending notification of her family.
CHP investigators are continuing to review the circumstances of the crash and have asked any witnesses to contact the South Lake Tahoe area office to assist with the investigation.
Bicycle Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards bicyclists, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a bicycle accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
