June 21, 2025, Bakersfield, CA: On Saturday evening, a string of accidents involving a pedestrian and a few drivers took place in Bakersfield and led to a fatality.
According to information provided by Bakersfield Now, the accident happened around 6 p.m. Police were initially dispatched to the scene at Baker Street and Sumner Street when they discovered that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. When officers were responding, they received reports of a second crash at Baker Street and Niles Street.
Officers arrived on scene, where they found a man was struck in the pedestrian accident. When they arrived at the accident between the two vehicles, they found both vehicles fully engulfed in flames. They found through their investigation that the surviving driver was traveling northbound on Baker when he collided with a pedestrian. He then continued onward, where he failed to stop at the intersection’s red light and crashed into a westbound vehicle.
The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The westbound driver in the second crash was tragically pronounced dead on scene as a result of their injuries. The driver who caused both accidents sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized.
Police are currently investigating the accident and waiting for toxicology results from the driver who survived the accidents. The investigation remains ongoing.
