Sacramento, CA – On the morning of Saturday, June 7, 2025, a multi-vehicle collision caused by a domestic violence suspect fleeing authorities resulted in the death of an adult male driver, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred around 10:15 AM at the intersection of Florin Road and Greenhaven Drive.
Authorities say the chain of events began when Sacramento Police officers responded to a call from a woman attempting to retrieve personal belongings from a home on Farm Dale Way. She reportedly believed that 33-year-old Daniel Cunningham of Sacramento might be present. Cunningham was the suspect in a recent domestic violence incident and was wanted on a felony warrant for being a parole violation. Before officers arrived, however, Cunningham had fled the area.
Shortly afterward, officers located Cunningham driving nearby and attempted a traffic stop using lights and sirens. When Cunningham refused to yield, a pursuit began. Police reported that they lost sight of his vehicle as it sped westbound on Florin Road. Moments later, Cunningham’s vehicle collided with six other cars in the intersection, totaling his vehicle and the others involved.
One male driver, who was uninvolved in the original police investigation, died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. His identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin are notified.
Following the collision, Cunningham allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended with the assistance of a police K-9 unit. He was taken to a hospital as a precaution and is expected to face multiple charges, including felony pursuit, domestic violence, and parole violation.
The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the fatal crash, while Sacramento police continue to examine the domestic violence allegations and related circumstances. Florin Road remained closed for several hours while authorities conducted their investigation.
The number and extent of injuries to other vehicle occupants have not been disclosed.
