Big Rig Crash at 7th Standard Rd, Cherry Ave in Bakersfield Injures, Causes Hazardous Spill

Bakersfield, CA – On the early afternoon of Thursday, June 19, 2025, a head-on collision between a truck and a big rig resulted in serious injuries and a hazardous diesel spill, according to KBAK.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 1:06 PM near the intersection of 7th Standard Road and Cherry Avenue.

Authorities say a white GMC truck traveling westbound for unknown reasons crossed into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with an oncoming big rig that had been traveling eastbound at approximately 35 MPH.

The impact caused a fuel tank breach, spilling an estimated 40 to 50 gallons of diesel onto the dirt shoulder and prompting a full road closure in the area. Hazardous materials crews responded to contain the spill and clear the roadway.

The driver of the GMC truck sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to Kern Medical for emergency treatment. The big rig driver suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

The incident remains under investigation, and officials have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Personal Injury Claims

When the actions of reckless drivers cause others to be injured, the cost of recovery should not fall on their victims. Filing a Personal Injury Claim with the at-fault party’s insurance can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
