Fresno, CA – On the night of Thursday, May 29, 2025, a vehicular collision resulted in critical injuries to a pedestrian, according to KSEE.
The Fresno Police Department reports that the accident took place around 9:15 PM near Cedar Avenue, just south of Shaw Avenue.
Preliminary details indicate that a vehicle was traveling southbound on Cedar Avenue when it struck a pedestrian who was reportedly crossing outside of a designated crosswalk. The pedestrian sustained significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition, authorities said.
The driver involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. No additional injuries were reported, and impairment does not appear to be a factor at this time, according to initial findings.
Police continue to investigate the incident to determine the exact sequence of events and contributing circumstances.
Partial Liability in Pedestrian Accidents
California Law does not consider pedestrians to have the right-of-way under all circumstances, such as if they attempt to cross outside of a crosswalk. However, motorists are never relieved of the expectation to provide pedestrians with a Duty of Care toward their safety.
It may therefore be determined that a motorist is subject to only partial liability in a pedestrian accident. Should that be the case, they would be financially responsible for the victim’s recovery costs in proportion to their degree of liability.
