Bakersfield, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, May 20, 2025, a two-vehicle collision caused major injuries to multiple individuals, including five children, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred around 7:08 PM at the intersection of China Grade Loop and Manor Street after a driver fled Lerdo Jail property under suspicious circumstances.
Authorities stated that the driver of a 2011 Honda Accord had, for unknown reasons, entered Lerdo Jail grounds, bypassed security, and fled the area at high speed. The vehicle was later observed traveling eastbound on China Grade Loop toward Manor Street. As the Honda approached the intersection, it failed to stop at a red light and collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban that was lawfully proceeding through a green signal.
The impact occurred when the front of the Chevrolet struck the right side of the Honda, resulting in substantial damage to both vehicles. Inside the Suburban were two adults and five children ranging in age from 1 to 10 years old.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported all involved parties to local hospitals. One adult and one child from the SUV, as well as the driver of the Honda, suffered severe injuries. The other passengers in the SUV were reported to have sustained moderate to major injuries.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation related to the initial incident at Lerdo Jail, while the California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the traffic collision. Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect, and no motive for the initial actions has been determined at this time.
Personal Injury Claims
When the actions of reckless drivers cause others to be injured, the cost of recovery should not fall on their victims. Filing a Personal Injury Claim with the at-fault party’s insurance can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
