DUI Suspected in Fatal Wallace Rd, Cecil Ave near Delano

Delano, CA – Driver intoxication is believed to have been a factor in a two-vehicle crash on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 7, 2025, which resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries, according to KGET.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 3:38 PM at the intersection of Wallace Road and Cecil Avenue.

A 2004 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on Wallace Road at approximately 60 MPH when it approached a posted stop sign at the intersection with Cecil Avenue.

Meanwhile, a 2016 Chevrolet box truck, traveling eastbound on Cecil Avenue at about 55 MPH, did not have a stop sign at the crossing. According to investigators, the Toyota failed to stop and struck the left side of the Chevrolet truck.

The front-seat passenger in the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and left rear passenger of the Toyota sustained moderate to severe injuries and were transported to Kern Medical for treatment.

The Chevrolet driver was also injured and taken to a hospital in Delano with moderate injuries.

Authorities confirmed that alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision. The intersection was shut down in all directions for approximately four hours to allow for investigation and cleanup.

Stop Sign Laws

California Law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a Stop sign (California Vehicle Code 22450). Drivers may only enter the intersection when it appears safe for all parties to do so (California Vehicle Code 21802).

California DUI Law

Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”

Wrongful Death Claims

Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling. Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses.

Passenger Liability

Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.

A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
