San Francisco, CA – On the afternoon of Friday, February 28, 2025, a motorcyclist lost their life in a hit-and-run collision, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 2:11 PM in the eastbound lanes of I-80 near the Treasure Island on-ramp.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the motorcycle was struck by a black Jeep Wrangler which fled the scene after.
Emergency responders at the scene included members of the Oakland Fire Department, who worked to assess the situation while CHP officers managed traffic and began investigating the crash. Despite life-saving efforts, the motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries at the crash site.
Due to the severity of the collision, authorities issued a SigAlert, closing lanes four and five of eastbound I-80, which caused significant traffic delays in the area. Investigators turned to surveillance systems and traffic cameras to track the fleeing vehicle.
No further information regarding the identity of the motorcyclist has been released. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
California Hit-and-Run Laws
California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.
