Stanislaus County, CA – In a tragic turn of events, 26-year-old Oakdale woman Juliette Acosta was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a single-vehicle crash resulted in the death of her 4-year-old daughter on the night of Saturday, March 8, 2025, according to The Modest Bee.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 11:05 PM near Canal Bank Road and Arlberg Road.
Authorities say that Acosta was driving a Subaru SUV southbound on Arlberg Road when the vehicle veered off the road, sideswiped a wooden telephone pole, crossed Canal Bank Road, and entered the waterway. The vehicle became fully submerged in the canal.
Acosta’s uncle, who lives nearby, reportedly heard the crash and was able to help Acosta out of the vehicle. A Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene and entered the water to rescue the 4-year-old girl. Emergency responders transported her to Memorial Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries. Acosta was not injured in the crash.
The CHP determined that Acosta showed signs of intoxication and arrested her on suspicion of felony DUI. She was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
California DUI Law
Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”
Passenger Liability
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.
A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
